Plopsa For Nature

Plopsa goes green with 6 action points

We are aware as Plopsa Group of our responsibility to take care of the environment. Sustainability is therefore at the centre of all our business activities; this way we endeavour to manage the Plopsa parks as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. In addition to the many plans for the future, we have already taken a lot of steps to contribute to nature over the past few years:

Combined heat and power system

The natural gas operative CHP system ensures that heat and electricity are continuously generated at the same time, which leads to optimum energy saving and efficiency. We work together with heating specialist Remeha in order to achieve this. Thanks to these efforts, we are reducing our energy consumption and reducing our CO2 emissions by as much as 474 tons. That is equal to the consumption of no less than 120 Belgian families! We would like to contribute to the achievement of the European climate targets by 2020 and 2050 in this way.

Environmentally friendly paper

We print our material with plant-based inks and on 100% recycled and environmentally friendly paper. This paper bears, amongst others, the FSC label, which means that the paper used comes from sustainably managed forests. The CO2 emitted during the production of this paper was compensated by the purchase of CO2 reduction certificates as part of the forest protection project in Kasigau Wildlife Corridor (Kenya). Thanks to this project, almost 170.000 hectares of forest and savannah are protected!

Deposit payback and recycling

We strive for the least possible impact on the environment. We are convinced that we can encourage visitors, with a little bit of encouragement, to optimize the sorting of waste together with us. We therefore appeal to them to bring the cans or PET bottles bought in the park to one of our collection points. After being brought in, 25 cents are recuperated. This allows us to receive the waste ourselves and, as a result, sort and process it much more thoroughly. This is done in collaboration with Veolia

Public transport

The Plopsa parks are perfectly accessible by public transport, whereby we encourage visitors to take the train, tram or bus. We therefore also offer super cheap combination tickets valid for a return trip in cooperation with the NMBS and De Lijn.

Water treatment plant (WTP)

Due to the continued growth of the De Panne site, we have built our own water purification station, which removes the organic waste load, nitrogen and phosphorus from the waste water. In this way, Plopsa commits itself fully to water purification and –quality and we reduce our ecological footprint, thereby contributing to a greener future.

Solar panels

In addition to the above initiatives, the Plopsa parks are equiped with solar panels. We try to lend a helping hand to the environment in this way and we strive for energy neutrality.
